For direct marketers, utilities and wind farm operators

    Wind power forecasts for single wind farms and entire portfolios

    alitiq forecasts the output of your wind farms up to 10 days ahead and aligns the forecast with your latest measurements every 15 minutes. It is built on the turbine type and hub height of every turbine, several weather models and the actual behaviour of your wind farm.

    How the alitiq wind power forecast works

    Three steps, and you only do the first two once.

    1. Create wind farms

      Location and turbines with turbine type, hub height, rotor diameter and installed power: in the web portal or via the API. Wind farms with different turbine types are added type by type, and a fixed nighttime curtailment, for example for noise protection, is stored directly with the farm.

    2. Send measurements

      Send the measurements of the last 90 days and then, at least daily, the values of the past 24 hours, plus curtailments and unavailabilities. That is how the model learns how exactly your wind farm behaves.

    3. Retrieve forecasts

      For single wind farms or the entire portfolio, in your time zone, unit and time resolution: via REST API, Python package or as a file. The baseline forecast is ready minutes after you create a wind farm, the optimized forecast with measurements from the next day.

    What our forecast quality rests on

    A good wind power forecast comes from meteorology, turbine technology and measurements working together.

    Your turbines, not an average

    Every turbine enters the calculation with its turbine type, hub height and installed power. Power curves are stored for more than 190 turbine types; if yours is not among them, we use a default power curve based on the installed power.

    List of available turbine types

    Several weather models instead of one

    We use, among others, ICON-D2, ICON-EU and ICON Global from the German Weather Service, HARMONIE-AROME from DMI, ARPEGE from Météo-France and the ECMWF IFS. Our optimized model combines their strengths with the measurements of your wind farm, so the forecast reflects how it actually feeds in.

    Curtailments kept separate

    If your wind farm is curtailed, for example by the grid operator, for maintenance or for marketing reasons, report it via the API. The model then doesn't learn from distorted measurements, and the forecast stays realistic.

    Intraday every 15 minutes

    If you send measurements continuously, alitiq aligns the forecast with the latest observations every 15 minutes. Deviations from the weather forecast reach your intraday decisions in time.

    Case study: day-ahead forecast vs. measurement

    A wind farm in eastern Germany with 16 Vestas V90 turbines (2 MW each, 32 MW in total), 35 days from 8 September to 12 October 2026: our day-ahead forecast, as it was calculated on the previous day, next to the measured values.

    nRMSE
    9.3 %
    MAE
    6.1 %
    Bias
    -1.2 %
    • Measurement
    • Day-ahead forecast
    • Deviation (absolute)
    Period 8 September to 12 October 2026, 3,360 quarter-hour values (UTC). Metrics refer to the installed capacity of 32 MW. Bias: forecast minus measurement. For comparison: a persistence forecast that simply repeats the previous day's measurements reaches an nRMSE of 18.9 % over the same period.

    Accuracy you can check yourself

    You shouldn't have to simply trust a forecast. That's why the API gives you not only the latest forecast but every earlier calculation, so you can compare it with the measurements you sent us.

    The most meaningful test runs over several weeks on your own wind farms. That's exactly what the free first 30 days are for. Our guide explains how to evaluate forecasts fairly and why a single metric is rarely enough.

    Wind forecast API, Python or files

    The forecast goes where you need it, without a big IT project.

    REST API

    Retrieve forecasts for single wind farms or the entire portfolio, send measurements and curtailments, using your own wind farm IDs. Authentication with an API key.

    Python package

    With pip install alitiq and the alitiq-py package, you get forecasts directly as pandas-compatible data.

    File delivery

    Forecasts as files via sFTP, email or S3, with no development effort on your side.

    Web portal

    Create wind farms on the map, pick the turbine type from the list, look at the latest forecast and optionally protect your account with two-factor authentication.

    How the API Portal works

    Example: retrieve a portfolio forecast with Python

    # pip install alitiq
    from alitiq import alitiqWindAPI

    wind_api = alitiqWindAPI(api_key="your-api-key")

    forecast = wind_api.get_forecast_portfolio(
        power_measure="MW",
        timezone="Europe/Berlin",
        interval_in_minutes=15,
        portfolio_sum_column=True,
    )

    Frequently asked questions about wind power forecasts

    What is a wind power forecast?

    A wind power forecast predicts how much electricity a wind farm will generate over the coming hours to days. It combines weather forecasts, above all of wind speed at hub height, with the technical data of the turbines. Direct marketers, utilities and operators use it for schedule nominations, energy trading and to avoid balancing energy.

    What data does alitiq need for a wind power forecast?

    To get started, the location of the wind farm and, for each turbine, the turbine type, hub height and installed power are enough; the rotor diameter is optional. Measurements are optional too, but they are the basis for the optimized forecast.

    How soon is the first forecast available?

    A baseline forecast based on the weather models is ready minutes after you create the wind farm. As soon as measurements are available, you get the optimized forecast from the next day.

    What horizon and time resolution does the forecast have?

    The forecast reaches up to 10 days ahead. You choose the time resolution when you retrieve it; the default is 15-minute values, matching schedules and quarter-hour products. With measurements sent continuously, the forecast is updated every 15 minutes.

    Can I retrieve forecasts for an entire portfolio?

    Yes. One request returns the forecasts for all wind farms in your portfolio, optionally with a sum column. You use your own wind farm IDs, so the data goes straight into your systems.

    My turbine type isn't on the list. What now?

    Then choose the DEFAULT type and enter the installed power of the turbine; we use a default power curve. Feel free to write to support@alitiq.com if a type is missing.

    How do I handle curtailments and nighttime curtailment?

    Curtailments and unavailabilities, for example by the grid operator, for maintenance or for marketing reasons, are sent via the API, so the model doesn't learn from distorted measurements. A fixed nighttime curtailment with start, end, curtailment level and time zone is stored directly with the wind farm.

    How much does the alitiq wind power forecast cost?

    €18 per MW of installed capacity and month, all forecasting services included and with no different tiers, the same price as for the solar forecast. There are volume discounts for larger portfolios, and the first 30 days are free.

    How can I check the forecast quality?

    Via the API, you retrieve earlier forecasts as well as the latest one and compare them with your measurements. The most meaningful test runs over several weeks on your own wind farms, and that's exactly what the free trial period is for.
